DIEFFENSOR
Online X-Ray Mat Scanner for Weight Per Unit Area and Foreign Object Recognition
The GreCon mat scanner DIEFFENSOR allows clear material savings, while the panel quality is kept constant, and a high degree of process security.
Weight Per Unit Area and Material Distribution
By measuring the whole product across the entire production width, the scanner determines the material distribution in longitudinal and cross direction in high resolution.
Continuous monitoring of the weight distribution ensures an optimum production flow: process-related fluctuations in the weight per unit area are visualised and can be substantially reduced. Clear material savings can be realised by optimising fluctuations in longitudinal and cross direction as well as overspreading in the edge area. Unequal weights in the mat are prevented. This is especially useful for product changes.
Clear graphical and numerical representations enable the operator to follow and record production processes at any time. Moreover, he can intervene in the forming process, if necessary, to obtain a constant product quality while the use of material and energy is optimised.

Optimisation of product changes
Avoidance of influences disturbing the process
Process Protection
The DIEFFENSOR also detects elements that are dangerous for the process by means of x-ray technology and high-resolution detectors. Metallic and non-metallic foreign bodies of high density, such as glue lumps, super-dense fibre lumps or plastic and aluminium parts as well as all other metals – even those that are not detected by usual metal detectors or magnets, are identified. It also recognises "hot and wet spots" or even air voids in plastics. Hot spots can be the reason for fire during storage, especially in case of mineral insulating materials. Wet spots are, above all, bad for insulating panels due to the reduced insulating qualities.
Through the use of the DIEFFENSOR, the steel belts of continuous presses can also be effectively protected against damage by foreign bodies. The data of a detected foreign body is automatically stored for later evaluation. Textile belts can be protected against damage as well.
Measuring Principle
The DIEFFENSOR works in a non-contact way. X-ray sources, that transmit x-radiation through the material to be measured, are installed above the material. Depending on the specific density and the amount of material, the x-radiation is weakened. High-resolution sensors, that record the transmitted radiation intensity, are installed below the material. The weight per unit area of the material is calculated from the measured radiation.
Calibration
The measuring system is equipped with a multistage calibration device. Physical and process-related influences are considered. The measuring accuracy is increased. Calibration is carried out at regular intervals.
Safety
GreCon measuring systems are constructed in accordance with the recognised technical directives and are thus operationally reliable. The DIEFFENSOR has a high-quality housing and complies with the technical requirements of the Germany x-radiation regulations as well as DIN 54113.
